Projects

Projects are the backbone of Timeora reporting. A time entry that points at a project can appear in project reports, client reports and invoices; an entry without one cannot.
Open projectsWhat a project contains
Section titled “What a project contains”| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Name | Appears in the timer, reports and invoices. Keep it recognisable to the people who track time. |
| Client | Decides which client reports include the project. |
| Status | Decides whether the project is offered for new time entries. |
| Budget | Used to compare tracked time and cost against the plan. |
Create a project
Section titled “Create a project”- Open Projects in the navigation.
- Select Add project.
- Enter a name, select the client and set a status.
- Save. The project is immediately available in the timer.
Keep the list healthy
Section titled “Keep the list healthy”- Archive projects when the work is finished. Archived projects stay in reports for their period, but they stop appearing as an option for new entries.
- Rename carefully. The name is used in reports and invoice lines, so renaming changes what future documents say. Past entries keep pointing at the same project.
- Use the client field even when you only report internally. It is the cheapest way to make client reporting possible later.
Permissions
Section titled “Permissions”| Action | Permission |
|---|---|
| Open the module and select the project in the timer | projects.read |
| Add a project | projects.create |
| Edit or archive a project | projects.update |
| Delete a project | projects.delete |
If you can track time on a project but cannot change it, that is expected: the timer only needs projects.read.
Next steps
Section titled “Next steps”- Read the report guide to see how project time becomes report data.
- Review activities to make sure the second dimension of your reporting is useful.
