Punch clock and attendance

Availability:Timeora TimeFeature: punchClockPermission: punchClock.read

The punch clock records attendance: when you started working, when you stopped, and how long your breaks were. Timeora turns those punches into a daily and weekly balance and keeps the result in your work time account.

Open the punch clock
  1. Open Punch clock in the navigation.
  2. Select Clock in when you start working.
  3. Select Start break for unpaid breaks and End break when you continue.
  4. Select Clock out at the end of the day.

The clock always shows the current state — clocked out, working or on a break — and the time since the last change, so you can see at a glance whether a punch is still open.

Your organisation configures the rules that decide how a day is counted:

  • Daily and weekly expected hours, including part-time schedules.
  • Mandatory breaks, which are deducted automatically once a shift is long enough.
  • Public holidays and the organisation’s time zone, which decide which calendar day a punch belongs to.

Because the rules are applied in the organisation’s time zone rather than your browser’s, a punch near midnight can still land on the day your organisation expects.

Administrators maintain these values under Settings → Punch clock, Settings → Holidays and the organisation settings.

The work time account compares worked time with expected time for a period. It shows the balance day by day and the running total, and it is the place to look when you want to know whether you are ahead or behind.

Worked time comes from the punch clock; expected time comes from the schedule and is reduced by public holidays and recorded absences.

Managers with punchClock.adjust and administrators with punchClock.readAll can open the team view at Punch clock → Team. It lists everybody in scope with their current state, the punches for the selected period and the resulting balance.

  • Managers close and adjust their own team’s account.
  • Administrators see the whole tenant.

Every adjustment is recorded, so the original punch and the correction both remain visible.

Holiday, sick leave and other absences are recorded separately from punches. They reduce expected time instead of adding worked time, which is why an approved holiday does not create a negative balance.

If a punch is missing, add it before closing the period — corrections after a period is closed need an administrator.
