Track time with the timer
Availability:FreePermission: timeEntries.read
The timer is the fastest way to record what you worked on. It lives in Time tracker and always shows a date range, so you can check the current week and correct older entries without leaving the page.
Start a timer
Section titled “Start a timer”- Open Time tracker in the navigation.
- Choose the project and activity the work belongs to.
- Start the timer. The running entry appears at the top of the list with the elapsed time.
- Stop the timer when you switch tasks or take a break.
Only one timer runs at a time. Starting a second one stops the first, so the previous entry keeps a clean start and end.
If your organisation does not require a project for a task, you can leave the project and activity empty. The time still counts towards your week, but it cannot be attributed to a project in reports or invoices.
Add an entry manually
Section titled “Add an entry manually”Use Add time entry when you forgot to start the timer or when the work happened at a fixed time.
- Pick the start time and the duration (or the end time, depending on the form).
- Select project and activity.
- Add a note that will still make sense in a report.
Fix an entry
Section titled “Fix an entry”Open an entry from the list to change its project, activity, start time, duration or note. Deleting an entry removes it from every report and from any invoice that has not been issued yet.
Editing and deleting need timeEntries.update and timeEntries.delete. If the buttons are missing, your role only has read access.
Read your week
Section titled “Read your week”The list groups entries by day and shows the total for the selected range. Use the date range selection to switch to last week, a month or a custom period. The same selection is reused when you open Reports from the time tracking module, so the numbers match what you just saw.
Common questions
Section titled “Common questions”The timer keeps running after I close Teams. That is intended: the timer belongs to your account, not to the browser session. Stop it from any device, or edit the entry afterwards.
My week total is lower than expected. Check the selected date range first, then look for entries without a project. Both are listed, but only entries inside the range are counted.
A project is missing from the list. Projects are gated by projects.read. If the project is archived, it also stops appearing for new entries.
